Ph.D. Candidate in Chinese Literature

Graham became interested in Chinese language and culture when he was thrown into Chinese public high-school through the American Field Service cultural immersion program in Tianjin, China in 2001. He graduated with a BA in Classics and MA in Chinese both from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Graham’s area of specialization is early medieval Chinese literature and culture, and his research and teaching interests center around literary culture and interactions between Buddhism and Taoism and Chinese literature from the first- to the eleventh-century. He is currently working on a dissertation project, “Imagining Cultural Communities in Late Third- through Early Fifth-Century China,” which explores the literature produced at secular and religious gatherings at the beginning of the period of division between north and south
