Keung Yoon (Becky) Bae

Keung Yoon (Becky) BAE graduated from Princeton University with a BA Comparative Literature, and certificates in East Asian Studies and Creative Writing. She spent a year after graduation working in Seoul at a corporate consulting firm, and then returned to her studies by pursuing an MA degree at Harvard’s RSEA program. For her MA thesis, she focused on the presence and behavior of female ghosts across modern and contemporary East Asian cinema, using two films as case studies to illustrate the role of ghosts as socio-political allegories and temporal links. She hopes to continue a transnational approach in studying East Asian cinema, and is particularly interested in the threads of influence between East Asia’s national film industries, not only in terms of style and aesthetics, but also in terms of economic ties. Her other interests include contemporary East Asian pop culture and changes in the medium of manga/comics in an online context.
