# Peer Mentoring Program ## expand\_more The EALC Peer Mentoring Program serves to foster and strengthen a collaborative community among graduate students of various disciplines and G-years. Student Mentees (typically G1-G3, but open to all) are assigned to a Peer Mentor (G3+) who can offer advice on: 1. Adjusting to campus life and understanding university resources across campus 2. Establishing social, professional, and academic relationships both within the EALC department and campus-wide 3. Balancing coursework, TF-ships, and research with personal hobbies and interests 4. Navigating degree milestones such as generals, prospectus, and dissertation writing. The program aims for a 1:1 ratio for pairings to allow for a productive, meaningful association, but depending on year-to-year participation, mentors may be asked to advise 2 student mentees. Pairings meet every two weeks for a check in. Funds may be available to cover occasional light refreshments such as coffee and snacks. In addition to 1:1 mentorship pairings, the following programming may be offered throughout the academic year subject to funding availability: 1. Welcome Party/BBQ 2. Writing Hour (3 per semester) 3. \*Peer-led\* Prospectus Workshop Series 1. 1 Introductory Session (timeline introduction, brainstorming, sample viewings) 2. 1 Follow-up Workshop (draft writing) 4. Generals Panel Series: 2 separate panels with field-of-study distinction 5. End-of Year Celebration 6. Periodic Social Gatherings/Outings Participation Benefits: 1. Engagement with other EALC graduate students outside of your main field-of-study through mentorship, year-wide events, and our group WhatsApp 3.
