Ph.D. Candidate in Chinese History
Julian Gee
Julian Morville Gee holds a B.A. (double majoring in Classics and Chinese) and an LL.B. from the University of Sydney. As an undergraduate, he also studied at Fudan University. The thesis for his M.Phil. (also from the University of Sydney) analysed alien population expulsion proposals under the Wei and Western Jin dynasties during the Third Century A.D. and located them within competing “exclusivist” and “assimilationist” discourses present in early imperial China. His current research interests include the political history of early medieval China and Inner Asia, Chinese intellectual history and constructions of ethnicity in pre-Modern East Asia.
