Trevor Davis studies the history of religion in mid-imperial China from the perspective of local society across religious traditions and social groups. His current research interests center on textual production, dissemination, and reception as areas of practical activity rooted in concepts of ritual efficacy, sacred communication, and esoteric knowledge. More generally, he is interested in the relationship between ritual developments and emerging forms of communal organization. He holds a B.A. in History from Yale University.
