Annie Zhanling Wang studies the social and cultural history of late imperial China. Her work to date explores individuals in empires, including Black theatre practitioners in the shadow of the British empire, Central Asian poets in the Mongol empire, and Manchu women writers in the Qing empire. In her historical research, she likes to employ literary sources and explore human relationships. She also likes to conduct oral history interviews in her free time, mostly set against the US and the globalized world. She received her BA in History from Colgate University and MA in Regional Studies — East Asia from Harvard University.
