Huanruo Wang

Ph.D. Candidate in East Asian Film and Media
A young woman with long, straight black hair and sunglasses perched on her head, wearing a white t-shirt, leans forward and grins at the camera in front of a yellow background.

Huanruo Wang received her MA at Harvard’s Regional Studies–East Asia Program, with a focus on the literature and culture of modern China. Now a PhD student in literary and media studies at EALC, her current project investigates contemporary China’s media infrastructure and the status of reality-making through the lens of “pan-documentary.” With fieldwork and first-hand participation in media production, she looks to bridge the existing gap between textual approach and on-the-ground praxis/lived experience, and to examine the (re)production and transformation of realities in multifarious documentary forms. Before coming to Cambridge, she completed a BA in Chinese Language and Literature at Nanjing University, and an MA in Comparative Literature at Fudan University.
