Kwan Woo Hahn received his B.A. from Yonsei University and A.M. in Regional Studies-East Asia from Harvard University. The topic of his master’s thesis was the Korean authoritarian regime’s use of criminal organizations to quell the dissident voices arising from the Korean public.

Currently, he is a doctoral student focusing on the political and social history of modern Korea. Specifically, his research interest includes state and society relations under authoritarian regimes and the history of everyday life under dictatorships. He is also interested in how government agencies such as the Korean police served a critical role in molding the shape of Korean society throughout the 1960s and 70s.
