YING Lei is a Ph.D. candidate in modern Chinese literature and a Presidential Scholar at Harvard. Her work explores the nexus between Buddhism and modern Chinese literary and intellectual history. Her dissertation, “Shadows of Karma: Buddhism, Literature, and the Modern Chinese Revolution,” is an interdisciplinary study that examines the Buddhist contribution to an overlapping series of revolutions in late Qing to Republican China through the lens of literature and thought.
