Ph.D. Candidate in Chinese Film History
Peng Hai received his M.A. in East Asian Studies from UCLA, with a focus on the colonial history of Korea, the Sino-Arabia engagements in the age of steam and print and a keen interest in Chinese cinema. Coming back to the U.S. for his Ph.D. at Harvard, his interest now shifts to cinematic representation of real social geographies in Chinese films and the interactions between popular social discourses and filmic productions in China. His research interests also extend to Central Asia Studies and minority nationalities in contemporary China.
