Suiyun Pan
Suiyun Pan received his BA degree with Highest Honors in Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he wrote his senior thesis on femmes fatales in both Chinese and Greek literary traditions. He also holds an MA degree in East Asian Studies from Yale University. His Masters thesis examined the evolution of sea rhapsodies (hai fu) in early medieval China. Suiyun looks forward to digging deeper into the topic of the sea by exploring the roles played by ocean in different literary, philosophical, religious, and artistic genres throughout the middle period, the dynamics between seascape and landscape aesthetics, as well as the Chinese maritime literature and its western counterparts in light of the Blue Humanities. He is also interested in the development of poetic and prose forms (with a particular focus on parallel prose), the literature of meditation and self-cultivation, gender representations in medieval literature, geospatial imagination through poetry, comparative poetics, and popular music from antiquity to the modern era.
