Julie Yau Lee Chan is a student of early modern Chinese literature. Her research interests revolve around theatre, performance, and media studies. Prior to joining Harvard, she received her B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and her MPhil in Traditional East Asia from the University of Oxford. Through the lens of metareference, her master’s thesis delved into how theatre negotiated the boundary between dramatic representations and reality in seventeenth-century China. She looks forward to exploring how dramatic texts and performances shaped new modes of experience and expression in early modern China from a media-comparative perspective.
