Shae (Chae Lin) Kim received her B.A. in Asian Studies and a Master's degree in Korean literature from Yonsei University. In her master's thesis, she examined a 17th-century poetry book created for a courtesan, known as the Poetry Book for Chosaeng, dissecting the network of actors and the sociopolitical climate that influenced the book’s creation and preservation. Her research interest lies in exploring how linguistic-literary practices in literary Sinitic were utilized for political purposes by both elite and non-elite women and men. Furthermore, Shae is interested in investigating how literary Sinitic practices intersected with questions of gender, specifically the role literary Sinitic played in formulating and asserting masculinity in premodern and modern Korea.
